Girl Talk

I realize this post isn't about hair but it's something that is really important to me and it is all about celebraitng women which is a huge part of being a hairstylist.

I just launched a start-up with my friends called The Period Store. It's a place where women can shop online for feminine hygiene products and have them delivered to their door (along with chocolate and art) before their period arrives.

We have been dreaming about this shop for over a year envisioning puppies and kittens delivering sea sponge tampons with chocolate every month. At first we only seemed to work on the project on a certain week out of the month but are so thrilled to finally launch it.

A big part of The Period Store is not only making periods a little easier for women but also to have an open, educated dialogue about womanhood. We are making a series of videos interviewing women about their periods and having some good ol' fashioned girl talk over on our blog. I hope you like the video above, there are more to come and let me know what you think of the site!

My husband showed me this when he saw Ashley post it in Facebook. I think it's an awesomely brilliant idea. I think it's a great step in the direction of women being more open about their cycles. For some reason periods have become something women should be ashamed of or hide, but it's natural and something we should embrace as women. Talking about it is the first step. I applaud you and Ashley for this wonderful idea. I would love to talk about it on my blog if that is okay with you. :)

I like the concept, but hope people also know about the option of using a period cup. So convinient and a lot less waste every month. And so much cheaper as well.

For people for are interested, this is a good place to start reading about it http://lostinaspotlessmind.com/2012/05/you-need-to-know-about-menstrual-cups/

Samarkand,

We want to expose women to the wide variety of products that are available for period
management including soft cups. Check out our shop, we have a lot of soft cups including the one you mentioned as well as a lot of other eco-friendly products!

Having a service like this when I was a teenager would have made menstruation a lot less scary and embarrassing. Instead of dreading it every month, I would have been able to look forward to a box of treats in the mail. Very cool.
