Fall Fashion

Fall Fashion

As we dive deeper into the colder days of the year, the warmer sections of our closets come out to shine. Sweaters, coats and other warm items that were hidden away during the summer are finally having their moment.

A common belief is that the colder periods are times when fashion goes to sleep; where we bury ourselves in warm clothing and abandon our search for style. But if movies like ‘The devil wears Prada’ taught us anything, it is that even when keeping warm, everyone can look stylish. In a few easy steps, you too can be on your way to being a fall style queen:

Let it rip

During the summertime, showing skin is effortless and easy. As the weather gets colder, there is the inclination to cover up more and stay warm. This doesn’t mean that no slim can show. This is best done with ripped clothing.  The most common way to achieve this is to go for ripped jeans (the level of skin to be shown depends on personal taste as well as how warm you’d like to be). Another great option is ripped sweaters. Whether at the arm or at the shoulders or sides, ripped fabric in the fall time is a great combination of warm and edgy.

Bold Accessories

Even though we are in the season of sweaters, there’s no reason to go plain. One of the easiest tricks in the book is to apply a bold accessory. This is achieved by wearing a plain sweater and then adding a very bold single accessory to the look. One of the best options is a large broach on the shoulder or collar of the sweater. Another is a statement necklace that draws attention to the neckline. Alternatively, you can purchase a sweater with embellished collars, hemlines or shoulders for an extra touch of drama.

Fur

The most iconic and dramatic way to stay warm while looking fabulous is undoubtedly fur. Fur itself is a symbol of glamour and when put on any look is guaranteed to pass a statement. There are many ways to rock the fur look. The fur jacket is the first that comes to mind. There’s also the option of wearing a fur wrap around the shoulders. You could wear fur details like shoulder embellishments, hemlines etc. Or you can go all out and wear a full fur ensemble: jacket, hair et al. Keep in mind, overdoing fur tends to look a bit trashy which is the opposite of what you’re going for. Whichever way you choose to go, fur never fails.

Leather

One of the best materials to wear during the cold is leather. It’s partially impenetrable and is one of the universal materials that scream stylish. To turn the look on its head, it is best to wear leather in ways that aren’t the most traditional.  Rather than wear a typical leather jacket, why not invest in long leather coats? It’s guaranteed to keep you warm and is a silent homage to the Matrix. Leather is very versatile in its use and so there are so many other options to choose from. Leather trousers also come to mind, as do gloves, skirts, boots and so on. For those who don’t want an overpowering leather look, you can choose to purchase items with subtle leather detailing such as pockets, shoulders, and hemlines.  With leather, getting in touch with your inner badass is incredibly easy.

Cool colors

A lot of people make the mistake of wearing very dull colors during fall. This should not be so. Fall and winter are the times for cool colors (blue, purple etc ) to come out and shine. Bright shades of cool colors are a must for fall. One very stylish idea is to wear one of them (say, baby blue) head to toe. There has never been a time more apportioned for the look.
